About Scott Greenhut
Transformative Health Journey
In the wake of these losses, Scott made a pivotal decision to transform his life starting with his health. December 2017 marked the beginning of an incredible weight loss journey, with Scott shedding 110 pounds, dropping from 268 to 158 pounds. This change was monumental, not only altering his physical appearance but also significantly improving his overall health. He reversed the effects of severe sleep apnea—a condition that had plagued him for years—and demonstrated that personal health goals, no matter how daunting, can be achieved with determination and discipline.
Community Involvement and Legacy
Scott started the Greenhut Family Fund to do Random Acts of Kindness and Closure for the Living for people who are going through what his family passed away from: breast cancer, dialysis, and ocular melanoma patients.
Scott wants to remind you that it’s just as important to take care of your mental health as it is your physical health. After losing his family, someone took advantage of Scott, seeing how vulnerable and empty he was inside. As a result, Scott was suicidal four times. His depression and anxiety medications helped save his life. He realizes how important it is to be the messenger on this subject matter.
He came up with #PleaseJustStart to inspire the world to start living life with no regrets. He also coined his own quote: “Don’t wait for something negative to happen in your life for you to make the positive change you always think about.”
He hopes he has already inspired you to go after that thing you constantly think about and #PleaseJustStart.
Early Life and Resilience
Scott Greenhut grew up in the Atlanta area. He became the last person living in his immediate family by age 33. Unfortunately, his mom, Harriet, passed away from breast cancer when he was 12 years old. His dad, Gordon, passed away after being on dialysis for 7 years in August 2017. His sister, Melissa, passed away after an 8-year battle with ocular melanoma on February 1, 2019.
Now, Scott is an inspirational speaker, philanthropist, and mental health advocate, sharing some of the life lessons he’s learned from the profound loss of his mom, dad, and sister.
Between his dad and sister passing away, he lost 110 pounds on his own by eating healthier (he hasn’t had any dessert, fast food, or fried food since February 2018). He has completed over 1,800 days in a row on his elliptical and worked his way up to 10 miles a day.
